1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

It's easy to be joyful, to pray and give thanks in good circumstances. But what about in lousy ones? Are we able to react in a joyful manner, praying and praising God in such situations? I have realized that this really does come hand in hand with trusting God. Knowing that He is in control and that He has our best interest in mind. Only when we are assured of God's power and love for us will we see things in a joyful perspective. Only then will we be able to pray and praise Him wholeheartedly despite trying times. This counts even in little events that we usually neglect (like being late for class or work). We know the principle behind this verse already. It has been preached so many times but we always forget.

We are given the assurance that God is in control all the time. In Philippians 4:6-7, it says "Don't worry about anything instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." In Isaiah 26:3 it is promised that "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!"

I suggest we remember the promises of God before we start complaining or sulking about situations we find ourselves in. Instead, lets be joyful because it gives us an opportunity to see God's hand work. Lets pray and thank Him because it is His will, and we know that it is good, pleasing and perfect for Him and for us as well.

Today, lets remember this verse in everything that we do. Lets communicate with Him continually and remember that any situation is a blessing if it brings us closer to Him (even if it stresses you out).

Have a great day y'all!

Reflecting God's Glory [27 Jun 2006|11:52pm]

Our faces, then, are not covered. We all show the Lord's glory, and we are being changed to be like Him."
2 Corinthians 3:18

The purpose of worship is to change the face of the worshiper. That is exactly what happened to Christ on the mountain. Jesus' appearance was changed: "His face became bright like the sun" (Matthew 17:2)

The connection between the face and worship is more than coincidental. Our face is the most public part of our bodies, covered less than any other area. It also the most recognizable part of our bodies. We don't fill a school annual with photos of people's feet but rahter with photos of faces. God desires to take our faces, this exposed and memorable part of our bodies, and use them to reflect God's goodness.

Grace for the Moment

I pray that we will all be mirrors of God's goodness and beauty today.

The Greatest of all Love Stories [14 Apr 2006|07:38am]

[ mood | in awe ]

Once upon a time, there lived a Man. He was good and kind, and people loved Him. His best friends followed Him wherever He went, and together, they went to different towns to preach to people, to heal the sick, and to comfort the distressed.

But the Man had enemies. And they plotted to destroy Him.

One night, after the Man had dinner with his best friends, the enemies came. And they took Him away. They did awful things to Him, like beating Him up, mocking Him, stripping Him off His clothes, and finally, making sure He died.

And the Man died. He was laid to rest in a tomb, and everyone mourned.

But His story didn't end there.

This Man proved He was not only a man of flesh. He was, indeed, who He said He was.

He was God.

He rose again on the 3rd day and various people saw Him everywhere. And when He left instructions for His best friends, He went Home. Back to His Father who loved Him.

And His story goes on to this day.

It's probably the greatest of all love stories. It's the world's best-seller as well.

But why is it that people forget this story exists? Why is it that people doubt its authenticity?

I guess, it's because many people believe this story to be fiction; to be one of the many great stories out there that aren't necessarily true.

However, unlike other stories, this one is the most real. Because we can experience this love for us. If we just accept it for what it is and allow it to take root in our being.

His love prevails. His love is what led Him to die in the first place — He did it for us so that none of us would ever have to go through what He did.

If this story never had a profound impact on you, maybe it should now.

Today is the day that we should all reflect on the kind of love He showed us. Today is the day we should thank Him for what He did.

A blessed day to all!

impossible is nothing [14 Mar 2006|12:09am]

"I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for Me?"
- Jeremiah 32:27 (NLT)

Nothing is impossible with God! :) I've seen that today, hope to see it again tomorrow (hehehe)! I pray that we will always have faith that God is in control of every situation! :D

GENREV NIGHT THIS FRIDAY! [22 Feb 2006|11:21am]

[ mood | excited ]

As usual, music is kickin', worship is rockin' and admission is totally free. That means you can bring everyone you know--no really, you can! (And I still stand by the age-old advice: please bring a jacket because the TV studio is a relocated portion of Siberia.)

God bless and see you guys there!

good 'ol scripture time [13 Feb 2006|11:53pm]

Today's one of those days when my devotional seems to be reading my mind! :D

"Whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance." James 1:2-3

The devotional goes on to say -- "... during this time, I learned a new prayer: Lord, this is where You want me to be, so this is where I need to be. ... Sometimes, God wants us to learn to smile even before we find a reason to. It's those times when He wants us to simply trust that He's in control. This means we shouldn't mope around while waiting for our trials to end. Rather, we should look to God's Word, which says that even in our trials, He will make a way so that we can endure them gracefully (1 Cor 10:12-13)."

(taken from LIVING WATER 2006)

Thank You Lord, for everything! You are my strength ♥

God bless you guys! :D

Hello, God! [31 Jan 2006|06:26pm]

THE "fictionalized" conversation below was lifted from a local/regional newspaper. I'm sending it you because it is too good not to be shared with others. Read on:

God: Hello. Did you call me?

You: Called you? No, who is this?

God: This is God. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat with you right now.

You: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.

God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy, too.

You: I don't know. But I can't find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.

God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.

You: I understand. But I still can't figure out. By the way, I was not expecting you to call me today.

God: Well I wanted to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this mobile phone era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

You: Tell me , why has life become complicated now?

God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.

You: Why are we then constantly unhappy?

God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.

You: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?

God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.

You: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty.

God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.

You: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?

God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter.

You: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God: Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

You: But still, why should we go through such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?

God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks, Offering Beneficial Lessons to Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when you are free from problems.

You: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading.

God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.

You: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?

God : Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.

You: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

You: What surprises you about people?

God: When they suffer they ask, "Why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me?" Everyone wishes to have truth on their side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.

You: Sometimes I ask, "Who am I? Why am I here?" I can't get the answer.

God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.

You: How can I get the best out of life?

God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

You: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times, the answer is NO.

You: Thank you for this wonderful conversation.

God: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Don't believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Who God Uses [30 Jan 2006|06:53pm]

The next time you feel like GOD can't use you, just remember...

Noah was a drunk
Abraham was too old
Isaac was a daydreamer
Jacob was a liar
Leah was ugly
Joseph was abused
Moses had a stuttering problem
Gideon was afraid
Samson had long hair and was a womanizer
Rahab was a prostitute
Jeremiah and Timothy were too young
David had an affair and was a murderer
Elijah was suicidal
Isaiah preached naked
Jonah ran from God
Naomi was a widow
Job went bankrupt
John the Baptist ate bugs
Peter denied Christ
The Disciples fell asleep while praying
Martha worried about everything
The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once
Zaccheus was too small
Paul was too religious
Timothy had an ulcer...AND
Lazarus was dead!

LOLLLL! we don't have any excuse people!!! all of us can be used by God no matter how incapable or insignificant we may feel.

Prayer of Blessed Rupert Mayer [30 Jan 2006|01:03am]

There's a Bukas Palad song of this too, which is my ultimo favorite Bukas Palad song, but oh well, his original prayer is super nice, too. ♥

Lord, let happen whatever you will;
and as you will, so will I walk;
help me only to know your will!
Lord, whenever you will, then is the time;
today and always

Lord, whatever you will, I wish to accept,
and whatever you will for me is gain;
enough that I belong to you.
Lord, because you will it, it is right;
and because you will it, I have courage.
My heart rests safely in your hands!

"Meet Such a Man" [07 Jan 2006|09:33pm]

[ mood | calm ]

This was a journal entry written by one of our youth leaders at Jzone. I finished reading his story and found myself teary-eyed at the way God reveals Himself. I thought I'd share it with you guys, and hopefully you'll be inspired

Servant hearts like this man's remind me that God is working mightily in our midst.

be not afraid of Christ! [06 Jan 2006|11:10pm]

Whoever lets Christ enter loses nothing -- absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship do the doors of life open wide. Only in this friendship are the great potentialities of the human condition truly disclosed. Only in this friendship do we experience what is beautiful and what frees.

Dear young people: be not afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and gives all. Whoever gives himself to Him, receives the hundredfold. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ, and you will find real life.

Pope Benedict XVI

[20 Dec 2005|08:49pm]

a friend sent this a few days ago. it was too nice to keep to myself. :) enjoy!

by Max Lucado

The virgin birth is more, much more, than a Christmas story; it is a
picture of how close Christ will come to you. The first stop on his
itinerary was a womb. Where will God go to touch the world? Look
deep within Mary for an answer.

Better still, look deep within yourself. What he did with Mary, he
offers to us! He issues a Mary-level invitation to all his children.
"If you'll let me, I'll move in!"

Proliferating throughout the scriptures is a preposition that leaves
no doubt- the preposition in. Jesus lives in his children.

John was clear, "Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in
them" (I John 3:24 NIV, emphasis mine).

Christ grew in Mary until he had to come out. Christ will grow in
you until the same occurs. He will come out in your speech, in your
actions, in your decisions. Every place you live will be a
Bethlehem, and every day you live will be a Christmas. You, like
Mary, will deliver Christ into the world.

God in us! Have we sounded the depth of this promise?

God was with Adam and Eve...God was with Abraham...God was with
Moses and the children of Israel. God was with the apostles.

But he is in you. You are a modern-day Mary. Even more so. He was
a fetus in her, but he is a force in you. He will do what you cannot.

Can't stop drinking? Christ can. And he lives within you.

Can't stop worrying? Christ can. And he lives within you.

Can't forgive the jerk, forget the past, or forsake your bad habits?
Christ can! And he lives within you.

happy holidays boys and girls!

may Christ be everything for you. ♥ [20 Dec 2005|12:12am]

"The secret of holiness is friendship with Christ and faithful obedience to His will... May Christ be everything for you. Offer Him what is most precious to you: the gold of your freedom, the incense of your ardent prayer, the myrrh of your most profound affection."

- Pope Benedict XVI

Merry Christmas guys! Well malapit na at least. :D

Growing through Temptation (PDL, Day 26) [10 Dec 2005|09:05pm]

[ mood | contemplative ]

Temptation is an opportunity to grow. All through our life we are presented with different things to produce spiritual growth, and temptation allows us to exercise our character by doing the opposite.

Temptation stays pretty much the same, but many of us still fall for the same old tricks. First, Satan figures out something you desire. Often, these can be good things but he will tell us that another route will make us just as happy. For instance, we may want security. God wants us to trust in him, then we can be truly secure. Satan would tell us that storing up money can make us secure, even though wealth can disappear.

First, Satan makes us question what we know. We find ourselves wondering about what we know of God and how he wants us to live, and not looking to the source for information.

Next, we accept the lie and choose to believe it. At this point we are telling God that our opinion is more important than his word. Finally, we act upon the false desire.

Now that we know how we are tempted, we need to look at how to escape temptation. First, realize that temptation itself is not sin. Don't be scared by thinking that temptation is more powerful than God in you. Next, look for how you are usually tempted and try to break that pattern. If you are tempted to sin every time you talk to someone, you need to change those conversations or maybe even that friendship. Then request God's help. Pray quickly, and prepare to move to get away from the temptation, however God tells you to move!

Don't try to fight temptation on your own. Without God and others looking out for us, we will have a very hard time. Look to him and his word, then surround yourself with others who want to do the same thing.

Know. Temptation is an opportunity to do good.

Remember. "God blesses the people who patiently endure testing. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." -James 1.12. (NLT)

Think about it. How can I become more like Christ by defeating a temptation that I often face?

The Lord never keeps an account of our sins. We shouldn't be discouraged if we always turn to Him and ask for forgiveness for the same sins over and over again, because He is always there and willing to listen to our prayers. Sigh. I really needed this lesson (hooray for the PDL audiobook on shuffle with my songs in my iPod. Weird way to hear God's message -- in the middle of soundtripping -- but He couldn't have made it any clearer!)

PRAYER REQUEST! [04 Dec 2005|11:00pm]

HEY Y'ALL! for the next two weeks, the UP CCF team will be having classroom evangelism. we are in dire need of prayers. please please pray for us (courage, right motives, etc), the professors and the students (that they be receptive to it, etc). thanks!

FOR ENCOURAGEMENT [04 Dec 2005|11:40am]

This encouraged me today. I hope it will do the same for you.

1 Peter 1:6

So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while.

The verse speaks for itself. Whoever is hurting right now, know that it will come to an end and something beautiful is waiting for you. I hope you take comfort in this (verse).
